Once all the mandrels have been made we can move on to spin the actual parts needed
to produce the lamp. The photographs to the left shows a 15" Brass shade being spun
by the artist.
Considerable skill is needed to spin these parts especially when brass is employed.
Brass when spun worked hardens very quickly and it will need to be annealed several
times to soften the brass.
The photographs above show the vast array of hand tool the artist uses to spin some of
the complicated shapes. Each tool had been hand forged or ground to shape then
highly polished to limit the tool marks left on the surface of the metal after working.
